On Thursday, February 7, 2008 at around 11:00 pm, Benton Harbor police received a report of a shooting in the alley behind the 700 block of Colfax Street. Several subjects were seen running from the area after the shooting occurred. Police found 17-year old Ramsey Smith lying in the alley with a gunshot wound to his head. He suffered a profound traumatic brain injury and will likely remain in nursing care for the remainder of his life.
Ramsey was a resident of Grand Rapids at the time of the shooting, and he was in Benton Harbor to visit relatives.
