FRANKLIN, Ind. (AP) — Indiana authorities are investigating the hypothermia death of an 85-year-old woman who wandered away from an assisted living center.

Virginia Clayton's body was found Sunday three blocks from Morning Pointe Assisted Living in Franklin about 20 miles south of Indianapolis.

State health department spokeswoman Amanda Turney tells The Daily Journal of Franklin (http://bit.ly/yAmoGw ) the agency and Johnson County Coroner David Lutz are investigating whether Morning Pointe followed health care facility rules.

Lutz says Clayton died of hypothermia in 30-degree readings after she fell along a sidewalk and broke an arm. The Martinsville woman was dressed only in pajamas and slippers. Lutz wants to know why staff didn't respond to a working alarm on the door Clayton exited through.

Morning Pointe executive director Luan Deskins says the facility is cooperating.
