The City of South Bend offers three ways to dispose of natural Christmas trees through Friday, January 17.
Residents may drop off trees from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., seven days a week, until January 17 at three locations:
Rum Village Park - Ewing Avenue at Gertrude Street
Pinhook Park - 2800 block of Riverside Drive
Veterans’ Memorial Park - Twyckenham at Northside Boulevard
Drop off is for Christmas trees only. Trash is not permitted. Placing of items other than trees is a ticketable offense under the South Bend Municipal Code. Trees will be recycled at Organic Resources into high quality mulch, which will be provided free to South Bend residents.
Call-ins to have a tree picked up curbside also has begun. Residents are asked to call 311, the City’s customer-service line, to request collection.
Automatic tree pickup begins on Monday, January 6. The Street Department will begin in the northeast quadrant and move clockwise throughout the City picking up trees curbside through January 17. After January 6, residents do not need to call 311 to have trees collected curbside.
Residents are asked to follow these guidelines for safe and efficient tree pickup:
Trees should be placed at curbside by 6:00 a.m. Trees should not be place in the street or in alleys.
Please remove all lights, ornaments, and metal, including tree stands or nails, before discarding trees. Items left on trees can injure employees or seriously damage the tree shredding equipment, leaving it inoperable.
Artificial trees and trees containing any metal, glass, or wire, will not be collected and are residents’ responsibility to dispose.
