ELKHART, Ind. (AP) — The body of an Army soldier from Elkhart who was killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan has returned home to Elkhart
The family of Staff Sgt. Jesse Williams received his body around 9:00 am on Friday at South Bend Regional Airport. The soldier's body was then taken, via a procession, to Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart by way of the U.S. 20 bypass and State Road 19.
Williams and five other soldiers died when a Black Hawk UH-60 helicopter went down Dec. 17 during a mission in Zabul province.
The visitation for Williams is scheduled for 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Jan. 2 at Granger Community Church in Mishawaka. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Jan. 3 at Granger Community Church. His body will be buried at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart.
On Saturday, 12/28, at 1:00pm, members of the public are invited to gather at V.F.W. Post 360 on Jefferson Blvd. in Mishawaka. There will be a procession to the Staff Sergeant Williams' family's home for a silent vigil.
