More details have been released from Elkhart County Sheriff Brad Rogers regarding the launch of the ECSD Alert Network; a new interactive way to keep the community connected and informed through opt-in e-mails and web published public safety alerts.
Residentscan sign up for the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office Alert Network for free via a dedicated web page link found on the Sheriff’s Office website, www.elkhartcountysheriff.com, or by clicking the link on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
Subscribers can sign up to receive alerts from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office via e-mail or as a text message to a cell phone. They can also opt to receive neighborhood only or countywide alerts through the CitizenObserver alert system.
The new initiative will also enable the public to report suspicious activities easily through the tip411 anonymous text messaging code or online through a web tip form. While this is not a replacement for dialing 911 in an emergency, this technology will allow interested persons to communicate potentially helpful information to the Sheriff’s Office.
To submit a tip as a text message, simply text ECSDTIP and the tip to 847411 (tip411). When the Sheriff’s Office receives the message, they can respond to the text with any follow up questions or comments. The Sheriff’s Office has no way to access the identity of the individual reporting the information, so even when responding to the texts, the tipster remains anonymous.
Another option for submitting an anonymous tip is to go online to the website or to the Facebook page and click the button that says “Submit a tip.” This will direct the individual to an online web form that can be filled in with the tip information. After submitting the tip, a tip ID will be given. Use the tip ID to login and view any feedback from the Sheriff’s Office, or to add any additional information that may become available.
