The sewer compact debate lives to fight another day in Elkhart.
In a statement sent to Michiana's News Channel on Friday, Mayor Dick Moore's office stated the mayor was vetoing the proposed ordinance establishing the conditions and fees for services outside the territorial boundaries of the city.
City attorneys advised the mayor not to sign the ordinance, calling it illegal, invalid, and unenforceable because the provisions fall short of what is supported by Indiana law.
Mayor Moore is working on yet another proposed ordinance that he hopes will be a compromise capable of bringing relief to the situation between the city, and those outside its borders.
